Remy Dubois
This brand creation required knowledge of Typography, Logo Design, Graphic Design, Web Development, Marketing, and Brand Cohesion.
The goal of this project was to create a complete brand aesthetic for my personal DJ alias, Remy Dubois, including web design and album artwork.
Designing the logo for Remy started with the basic concept that it needed to be adaptable and readable at many different sizes. It needed to be clear enough for the context of album artwork and unobtrusive enough to not require a different design when used as large headline on a banner or show announcement.
The persona behind Remy Dubois was created to explore multiple different genres of music within the umbrella of “electronic dance music,” specifically House, Drum ‘n’ Bass and Future Beats. Remy is featured on an online radio show every Monday and has a SoundCloud account dedicated to remixes, bootlegs and original songs. Because of the diversity within the musical brand of the alias, the visual brand also needed to be dynamic and work with many different styles.
Club music is loud, bouncy, and fun, and the color choice for the brand should match the atmosphere.
As Remy is an almost exclusively online presence, the website is key to making content accessible for those interested in latest releases, upcoming shows and other information regarding the alias. Using the custom WordPress theme I’d built for Black Thumb, I created a separate look and feel for Remy. The playful take on nightclub colors is juxtaposed with black and white graphics and text with simple vectors to keep the mood in line with the music.
The underground nature of the music I play allowed me to explore some other areas of counter-culture, including graffiti. I took my persona’s artistic presence a step further with this piece, keeping my visual art influences from my art school background and combining them with the underground art culture and its flair.
