Project CARS
To create these assets I used skills in 2D texture wrapping of 3D models, Graphic Design, Logo Design, and Communication.
The Project CARS series is comprised of hyper-realistic driving simulators for the PC, Playstation and Xbox. I have been a part of the development of each release in the series, and was able to not only experience firsthand the entire artistic process that goes into video game art, but get my own art into the release of the game.
When I signed on as a community developer for the first installment of the racing video game, Project CARS, I was just doing bug reporting and giving general feedback. I had the opportunity to create some visual assets for release in the final game, so I used that chance to create several types of art that went on to feature in the 2 million copies of the game sold. This includes the vehicle livery, team logo design, and in-game event flyer artwork.
My input was key to developers throughout the process, affecting the final product, with influence on the game’s interface as well as individual vehicles’ final look and feel.
Each race weekend in the game has its own specific flyer. Several of my designs were chosen for use in the game, including some found in the main menu of the game. For this, I chose each car that would be featured and used its country of origin to create a colorful and specific flyer for each weekend.
The different racing disciplines all have their own teams that sign the driver to a contract. The “Final Drive” team, included in the final game, used my design for the contract and team branding.
Each race car has its own paint scheme to represent the various teams in the game, as well as the ability for the player to customize their own paint scheme outside of the game. The 2D map of the vehicle texture is unwrapped and painted in Photoshop, with different files for reflections and paint material combined in the game engine to show the final version.
