Black Thumb Clothing
This project includes work with Logo Design, Graphic Design, Web Design, Communication, and Brand Cohesion.
I founded Black Thumb Clothing along with two of my best friends and collaborators. As a lifestyle brand we’re aimed at the automotive culture. The name itself is a reference to the way that your hands look after a long day of working on cars. Just like a gardener might have a green thumb, a car guy will have a Black Thumb. Mechanics, racing drivers, tinkerers, engineers and anyone who loves cars are the target market.
The logo for Black Thumb evolved over a few years. The driving forces behind the design were to convey the brand while also creating a logo that looked great blown up on the hood of a car, as well as shrunk down and cut out of vinyl for stickers.
For our main color swatch, we wanted something masculine with high contrast to the darkness of the overall “black thumb” idea.
Without a brick and mortar location an online presence is essential. Starting from the ground up I built a blank WordPress theme for our brand and completely customized the CSS for the externally hosted shop page embedded in our site.
In addition to clothing design, Black Thumb also creates branding that is featured on a number of track-prepared vehicles, including this Mazda Miata. From design to cutting and application of vinyl all work was done by Black Thumb.
